Marco Stanke, born in 1987 in Bad Aibling, Germany, has been trained at the Nuremberg and Munich art academies under Prof. Thomas Hartmann and Prof. Pia Fries. Stanke graduated as a master student in 2018 and 2019.
Since 2015, he has been living and working in Munich, steadily establishing his presence through a range of regional and national exhibitions in galleries and museums. His work has also been recognized with several awards and grants.
At the heart of Stanke’s practice is his sprawling, ever-expanding series Kollektiv, now numbering over 150 works. This ensemble, which he refers to as “image-objects,” delves into new, unconventional approaches to image-making. With a light, playful touch, Stanke pushes at the boundaries of what painting can be, gently but decisively prodding the viewer to rethink the traditional medium. It’s a visual conversation full of wit, offering a refreshing, almost irreverent take on the long-standing dialogue between artist and canvas.
